About Himanshu, the founder of Bhava
I'm Himanshu Batra, the founder of Bhava. If you've read one of the guides or posts on this site, I wrote it. This page is the short version of who I am, why I built a dating and matrimony app around Kundali matching, and what Bhava will and won't claim.

The longer story, in my own words, is on the home page. This is the short version.
Three worlds I taught myself
I've always been drawn to three worlds, and I taught myself all three.
The first was programming. I started young, and to me it was creation: an empty screen, an idea that lived only in my head, and a few hours later something real that other people could use.
The second was fitness, and fitness was destruction. In the gym you break yourself down, rep by rep, so your body can rebuild stronger than it was. It taught me that failure isn't the end of anything. It's a stepping stone. Every rep you fail shows you exactly where you are, and what to work on next.
The third was astrology, the study of time. Time is the thread that runs through the other two. Everything I've ever built, and everything I've broken down, happened inside it. Time is also where karma plays out. Whatever we do, good or bad, unfolds in time and comes back to us in time.
Creation, destruction and time. I never planned it, but I had been learning my own trinity.
Why I built Bhava
Building things taught me that creating something is only the beginning. The real cost comes after: running it, keeping it alive through the days when nothing works, and looking after it long after the excitement has gone. I've had many ideas over the years, and I've watched many of them fail. Every one taught me something I couldn't have learned any other way.
Some of my hardest failures weren't at work. They were in relationships. I kept asking myself why things fall apart even when two people truly care about each other. That question is what led me to teach myself astrology. I didn't expect much. What I found was beautiful: a way of understanding two people, their temperaments, their minds, their families and their futures, that our ancestors refined over generations and trusted with one of the biggest decisions of their lives.
Every young Indian has had the same conversation with their mum: nice profile, but did you match kundalis? Bhava does that check first, so people can spend their time on matches that could actually work, and bring their family in on their own terms.
That's what Bhava is: the past and the present, moving into the future together.
What Bhava is
Bhava is Kundali matching that families have trusted for generations, inside an app built for the way we meet today. In plain terms:
- Every introduction is already scored. Each person in your Drop has been checked against your chart on the 36-point Ashtakoota system, all eight kootas. Nobody scoring under 18 with your chart is put in your Drop.
- The score comes with words, not just a number. The card gives you the total and a word for it, and the profile says whether there's a dosha. Once you match, you can see all eight kootas for the two of you side by side, explained in plain words.
- If there's a dosha, we tell you. A same Nadi, an awkward Bhakoot distance or a Manglik mismatch is always flagged, even when the total looks great. Bhava applies no cancellation rules. That conversation belongs to your family or your pandit, and we'd rather you have it than not know.
- A few people each evening, not a feed. Up to five introductions at 7 in the evening, your local time, or seven with Plus. A chat opens only when both of you say yes.
- Your family has a place in it, on your terms. Parents get their own view of your matches, each with the Kundali score out of 36, and private notes that only you see, never the person they're about. They never message anyone. You decide.
- Your birth details stay private. Your birth date, time and place are used to work out the score and never shown to other members or their families.
What Bhava isn't
Bhava is not a promise. No chart, no score and no app can promise forever. Two people still have to show up for each other, every single day. A high score is a good start, not a guarantee. A low score is a reason to talk, not a verdict on a marriage.
Bhava is not your pandit. The app does the arithmetic and tells you honestly what it found. It doesn't apply the traditional cancellations for a same-Nadi pair or a difficult Bhakoot, and it doesn't tell you to go ahead or to stop. Many families take that question to an astrologer they trust, and I think that's right.
Bhava is not AI picking your matches. Every introduction is chosen by fixed rules our team wrote, where the Kundali score counts most, then distance, how complete and active a profile is, how new someone is, and a boost for Plus. No machine learning decides who you meet. The rules are written out on how matching works.
Bhava is not endless browsing. You can't scroll through profiles, and neither can your parents. The app does the introducing, a few people at a time, because the right person deserves your full attention.
What I write here
I write the guides on this site the way I'd explain them to a friend: short sentences, no lecture. I keep two things apart and say which is which. What the tradition says, including the old cancellation rules and remedies, I describe as tradition. What Bhava does, I describe as what Bhava does. Where those differ, I say so rather than smooth it over.
When I describe the app, I describe what it does today, not what I hope it will do next year. If a page gets ahead of the app, I'd rather fix the page than leave a nice-sounding line on it.
If you're new to all this, start with what Ashtakoota Milan is, then how many gunas should match. If you're a parent helping a son or daughter, the parents' guide is the place to begin.
The company
Bhava is a product of Sphnix, Inc. The app is free on iPhone and Android, with an optional Bhava Plus subscription. Bhava opens city by city rather than everywhere at once; see the cities page. Press releases are on the press page, and you can reach us at support@bhavapp.com.
Where to start
If you'd like to see a score before you download anything, try the Kundali matching calculator on this site. If you'd rather start with the app, it's on the App Store and Google Play. It will ask for your birth date, time and place, because that's your Kundali, and they stay private.
